One of our goals is to attract top professionals to our organization
and then guide each employee along a successful career path here.
The men and women of the College Board are its lifeblood and each
one of our employees contributes to our mission of connecting students
to college success. I have said many times that the work we do every
day at the College Board is of real significance because we affect
students' futures in powerful, positive ways, and in doing so, we
affect the nation in equally powerful, positive ways. If you have
a passion for our educational mission and an interest in working with
a uniquely committed team of talented people, I invite you to learn
more about us by reading some of the employee profiles below. They
just might inspire you to think about a career with the College Board.
Elvin, Technical Support Analyst
"The College Board attracted me for several reasons. Joining the College Board was the right decision in hindsight. I thought the work environment would be excellent and indeed it is! I had a position in the financial sector and wanted to continue my education. The College Board gave me the opportunity for a well-defined career in my field, tuition assistance plus the time to complete my degree. I couldn’t have accomplished these goals in a job on Wall Street—especially considering recent events!"
Elvin joined the College Board’s Business Technology staff 6 years ago. Since then he has been promoted twice, has had the opportunity to relocate to another office to take a newly created position, and has been a recipient of our Employee Values Award for outstanding service.
A few pleasant surprises for Elvin have been the College Board’s unique blend of career challenges, a dynamic work pace, supportive management, and the ability to contribute to an important educational mission.
Helen, Executive Director
"I saw coming to the College Board as a unique experience and a wonderful opportunity to continue to help young adults, particularly those for whom college may not have been an option. After all, I was a first-generation college graduate myself, and I have passed through some of the many doors college degrees can open leading to a successful life, both personally and professionally."
A former New York City Community School District superintendent, Helen joined the College Board as an executive director in College Readiness Systems. She recently served as the executive director of the New York Education Initiative K-12 for the College Board and was chiefly responsible for the development of 14 College Board Schools.
Kathy, Director
"It's such an amazing organization and it's a great place to work. I often tell candidates and co-workers that even when I'm having a bad day it is better than some of the best days in other places. We go through a lot of change, but that's what keeps us vibrant."
Kathy, a director of administration, joined the College Board's Reston office in August 2000. She has overseen the growth of the Reston office from about 85 employees to more than 425. The staff in Reston work on the College Board website, in IT, operations and some program areas. Kathy is enthusiastic about the College Board's organizational effectiveness initiatives, and the dynamic atmosphere where she works each day.
David, Regional Operations Director
"I think what has kept me moving with the Board for so long is the opportunity to have different experiences, try different roles and benefit from the continuous learning these roles have provided. The variety of work and challenges has kept it exciting. "What differentiates the College Board from some other well-intentioned organizations is that it has a powerful voice and can actually effect change."
The College Board's ability to impact the education landscape has invigorated David who works out of our Midwestern Regional Office. It's a good thing David likes change; he's seen his share since joining the College Board in 2001 as a temporary employee.
"It was my first job out of college," he said. "I was pretty uncertain about what I wanted to do when I left school, and this opportunity presented itself. Initially, I envisioned it being just a short-term job." He later became a full-time employee in the Midwest, then moved to the New York office to work with the PSAT/NMSQT program. After about two years there, he had the opportunity to return to the Midwest region in a Director position. David says he has enjoyed the challenges that change brings, and he's not looking to move away from the Midwest anytime soon.
Patty, Region and Account Services
"I love the people I work with and sharing ideas with them. I share that passion for getting students into college and helping them be successful there. I'm looking forward to visiting colleges and universities in our region and helping enrollment professionals meet their goals and identify creative solutions to their challenges."
Patty joined the College Board in December 2007 as an educational manager for higher education, serving the New England region. She came to the College Board after working in a variety of positions in education, including as an admissions and financial aid administrator at Olin College of Engineering in Massachusetts. She has also taught university courses and has a Ph.D. in medieval history.
"I was attracted to the College Board because of the workshops and other events I had been to while I was working in admissions and financial aid. I was impressed with the people associated with the Board and how mission-driven they were."
