AP Studio Art —
Artist Profile: Robert Marzinsky

AP ArtworkQ: Where did the idea for the piece come from? How was the piece developed? Was it a part of a series or an ongoing interest?

A: What you see is what it is. There was not that much thought involved. The sculpture evolved using creative play and my own intuition.

Q: What medium/media did you use? In which section of the portfolio did you submit it?

A: For this piece I used a wire armature, on which I wrapped gauze and placed plaster. I eventually sanded it down and smoothed out the rough spots. I submitted this piece in the Breadth section of the 3-D Portfolio.

Q: What particularly do you like about the artwork?

A: What I like about the piece is the beautiful simplicity in its form. It is simple yet elegant.

Q: Did the piece involve any particular challenges or difficulties?

A: I had no real difficulties in creating this piece. For me the hardest part of creating something, including this piece, is getting started.

Q: How did it fit into your AP course?

A: I actually made the piece at an earlier time during a sculpture class, but realized it would fit well into my portfolio.

Q: Did you study art long before taking AP?

A: I took the AP class my senior year, but I had been enrolled in art classes since my freshman year. What is more important is that I have been drawing as long as I can remember.

Q: What are your plans for the future? What are you doing now?

A: I don't really have any definite plans for the future. All I am sure of is that whatever I do, it will involve art in some way. Right now though, I am enrolled in the BFA program at Alfred University.
