AP Studio Art —
Artist Profile: Annie Davidson

AP Artwork This piece, submitted as part of the drawing portfolio, was the very first art project that Annie Davidson worked on in her AP Studio Art class at Shasta High School, Redding, California. The assignment required students to draw three or four objects, then break them up into shaded pieces. Annie drew a bowl and two glasses, then added grapes to the bowl. Working with black and white charcoal on brown paper, she found she was able to use the shading idea to connect the objects to each other and the background.

Annie never thought of herself as an artist, and was extremely gratified by the positive reaction to her first assignment: "It made me feel as if I belonged in the AP class." She loved studying AP Studio Art, and enjoyed working with her teacher Ed Howland, who was "...very experienced, and knew what the AP faculty consultants were looking for." Annie is now in her sophomore year at Santa Clara University, studying psycho-biology and pre-med. She plans to go on to medical school, where she will study to become a psychiatrist.
