Frequently Asked Questions: New Platform
Is there a registration fee to attend a training workshop?
There is no registration fee, however you will be responsible for travel expenses.
What is a Certificate of Training?
Training on the New Platform is required in order to receive a Certificate of Training that will allow you to call the ACCUPLACER Help Desk for any technical questions and to migrate to the New Platform
How will I receive my Certificate of Training?
After completion of training, you will receive by email a Certificate of Training and a Request for Migration Form. If you used WebEx and/or CD-ROM, you will need to complete the training survey. Based on the results, by email you will receive your institution's certificate and a Request for Migration Form. You can find the survey at
www.collegeboard.com/survey/newplatform.
What is a Request of Migration Form?
You will use this form and prepare for an appointment with ACCUPLACER Help Desk to move your test units from your old site to the New Platform.
What is the difference between the old and the New Platform?
There are a number of new features, including:
- Ability to manage multiple sites within an Institutional Site
- Ability to create proctor and report logins and passwords and the ability to set expiration dates for these logins.
- Ability to create different groups of background questions that can be administered at the beginning of a testing session, during a testing session, or at the end of a testing session.
- Ability to close a test session
- Ability to re-open a closed test session
- Ability for the Institutional Reports person to create reports from all subordinate sites.
What steps do I need to take to migrate to the New Platform?
With your Certificate of Training, you will receive a Request for Migration Form. When you are ready to migrate, complete the Request for Migration form and email to accuplacerinfo@collegeboard.org. Prior to migration, you will need to customize your testing site(s), and verify that your customization is performing appropriately. When you migrate all of your test units the current platform will be moved to the New Platform. After you migrate, you will not be able to test students on the old platform. You will only be able to run archived reports from the old platform.
Once I migrate to the New Platform, can I use the old platform?
Once you have migrated to the New Platform, all of your test units will be moved to the New Platform for all of your sites. You will not be able to test students using the old platform. However, you will continue to have access to the old platform for running archived reports for a limited period before the old platform is inactivated.
How long will I have access to my data on the old platform?
Your data on the old platform will be available to you for a limited period. If you anticipate that you will need to access any data from the old platform in the future, it is strongly recommended that you download all of your testing data from the old platform to a local file so that you will have access to it after the old platform is inactivated.
How will I get score reports from the old platform once I have migrated to the New Platform?
You will continue to have access to the old platform for running reports only. You will use your reports password—same as what you were using when testing on the old platform. At migration, if you do not have a reports password, one will be created for you.
Refer to the Instructions to Retrieving Data (.pdf/462K) to download your archived reports to a local file.
By what date will we have to migrate?
We would like to see all institutions migrated by July 2007.
Is ACCUPLACER Online secure?
In the New Platform, users have the option of using the SSL version of the application by using the IP address https://www.accuplaceronline.com, rather than http://www.accuplaceronline.com. The SSL version covers all the application, including reports. (The only difference is the "s" i.e. https or http.)
The user's experience or interface will not be any different. We have provided the flexibility of both, since some people may have good and valid reasons why they elect not use SSL.
The user should determine which URL address they want to use and bookmark that address, so that they are selecting the version that is appropriate for them.
