The Advanced Placement Program® (AP®) and the AP Annual Conference Steering Committee invite you to participate actively in developing the program for the College Board's AP Annual Conference 2008 by submitting a proposal for a main conference session.

As members of the AP and Pre-AP® communities, we share a commitment and must work together to ensure educational excellence for all our students. The Conference is our opportunity for colleagues to come together from across the world to share our experiences.

Committee members welcome your submissions. We recognize that Conference participants are professionals who value learning in interactive sessions with engaging audience involvement. The Committee favors presenters who respect and encourage a diversity of views. Presenters should demonstrate teaching strategies which help all students to access and understand the concepts and knowledge inherent in the various academic disciplines. These strategies should help students acquire and practice the skills that demonstrate their understanding.

Guidelines and Procedures

  • Submit a proposal only if you have secured funding for attending the conference and only if you are available to present at any time during July 18-19, 2008. Presenters receive a 30 percent discount on the main conference registration fee. All presenters must register for the conference; Main conference presenters are responsible for their own travel expenses and hotel accommodations.
  • Submit no more than two proposals, either as a main presenter or co-presenter.
  • List only individuals as co-presenters who have given their prior consent.
  • Provide all required contact information for your co-presenters, so that they can also be kept informed. As a lead presenter, you are ultimately responsible for sharing information with all your co-presenters.
  • The session title and description should be concise and informative. The title should not exceed 10 words and the description should not exceed 80 words. The description should discuss the content, the presentation plan, and the expected benefits for the attendees. The Conference reserves the right to edit session titles and descriptions for accuracy and clarity.
  • All sessions are scheduled to run for 75 minutes. You should plan your session to allow for sufficient question-and-answer time.
  • The Conference Steering Committee will favor proposals that demonstrate clear learning outcomes and engage participants in classroom activities.
  • Proposals promoting the purchase of books, materials, and services will not be considered for the Conference program. Individuals who wish to promote a product should contact Christine Schmidt at cschmidt@collegeboard.org to discuss exhibit and/or sponsor opportunities.
  • Audiovisual equipment: Flip charts and colored markers, overhead projectors and screen, and microphones are provided for all sessions. Additional equipment will be provided on a case-by-case basis and provided as necessary.

Please keep in mind that due to the need for a balanced program, and because of time and space limitations, not all good proposals can be included in the program.

If your proposal is not accepted for this year's conference, please submit one next year.

The AP Annual Conference Steering Committee will review all proposals and will notify you of its decisions in January 2008.
