CLEP for Veterans

Active-duty military service members have had the opportunity to take funded CLEP exams since 1974. This benefit has now been extended to military veterans. If you are an eligible veteran, you can receive reimbursement from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for CLEP exams and fees, saving you time and money while you pursue a college degree.

Veterans can claim reimbursement for CLEP exams and exam administration fees under provisions of the Veterans' Benefits Improvement Act of 2004 (Public Law 108-454), which enhances the education benefits of the Montgomery GI Bill. For more information about who is eligible for the CLEP benefit and how to submit a claim, please visit the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at www.gibill.va.gov/pamphlets/testing.htm.

"CLEP is one of the best programs I've ever come across in education. In only two months I received 15 credits toward my degree through CLEP. It has saved me money, but more importantly, I haven't had to sit in class for weeks to earn those credits. My advice is to take advantage of CLEP whether you're on active duty or a veteran like me."

-Jackson Gillett, former Marine

"The 15 credits that I earned by taking CLEP exams really helped me move forward in my education, plus I saved money. I am now within two classes of completing my degree. Active duty military and veterans who are headed back to college should definitely take advantage of CLEP exams."

-Brandon Vanderschaff, Oklahoma Air National Guard

CLEP offers increased flexibility in managing the complex demands of jobs, families, and college-level course work. The program allows veterans to demonstrate their mastery of college-level material in introductory subjects and to receive college credit by earning qualifying scores on any one or more of 34 exams.
