Practice Time Management
The Official SAT Online Course allows students to prepare for the SAT® at their own pace. The course can also introduce students to the time pressure they will face under real testing conditions.
While the flexibility of the course ensures that every school can implement the program in its own unique way, the following tip represents one example of how teachers can use the course to help students prepare for the special challenges of test day.
In addition to having students complete entire practice tests, which are timed just like the real SAT, you can also establish deadlines for the completion of individual exercises like essay prompts and lesson quizzes, with clear incentives for finishing on time.
At Deep Run High School in Glen Allen, Virginia, essay prompts are treated as timed classroom activities. Teachers assign participation grades for the completion of all assignments. "Making students accountable is really important," says Deep Run Technology Trainer Greg Metcalf.
Having students work on their SAT Online Course assignments under time constraints encourages students to develop the time-management skills they'll need for test day.
