Link to the PSAT/NMSQT®
The PSAT/NMSQT is often a student's first official step on the road to college. It can also be a powerful tool to encourage use of The Official SAT Online Course.
While the flexibility of the course ensures that every school can implement the program in its own unique way, here's one example of how teachers can help students maximize their use of both the PSAT/NMSQT and the course at the same time.
In mid-December of this year, high school students who took the 2007 PSAT/NMSQT will have access to My College QuickStart™, a free personalized online planning kit based on their test results. This tool includes an online PSAT/NMSQT score report (including questions and answer explanations), college and career planning tools, a quick and easy way to register for the SAT®, and a customized SAT study plan.
The SAT study plan allows students to review the PSAT/NMSQT questions they missed and learn how to improve their skills. Students who are subscribers to The Official SAT Online Course can take advantage of additional features. For example, the plan offers links to related lessons and quizzes and allows students to take the Official SAT Practice Test online and have it automatically scored. Students can also receive an automated score for practice essays prompts within the plan.
Another idea is to include the online course student registration card when distributing PSAT/NMSQT test books and Score Report Plus and explain that the information provided in Score Report Plus and My College QuickStart can help students focus their efforts when preparing for the SAT with The Official SAT Online Course.
Ronnie Santorelli, guidance department chair at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village, Connecticut, staples registration cards to PSAT/NMSQT test books before handing them back to the students.
By using this opportunity to remind students of the course and explain how Score Report Plus can help them focus their SAT preparation efforts, you can ensure that students get the most they can out of the PSAT/NMSQT—and out of The Official SAT Online Course, too.
