Monitor Student Progress
The official full-length Pretest and official practice tests in The Official SAT Online Course give students the opportunity to prepare under test-like conditions and give teachers the ability to gauge student improvement over time.
While the flexibility of the course ensures that every school can implement the program in its own unique way, here's one example of how teachers can use the Pretest and practice tests to measure their students' progress.
Have all students take the official full-length Pretest when they begin using the course. Then assign official practice tests at regular intervals, comparing students' results with their initial performance on the Pretest. Go to the Reports tab to generate reports that can help you track students' scores.
At Cambridge-South Dorchester High School in Cambridge, Maryland, English teacher Barbara Bailey uses the Pretest to establish a basic benchmark of her students' strengths and weaknesses. She then has students complete one full-length practice test halfway through the semester, and another at the very end of the term, to gauge their progress.
By using the Pretest to establish an initial benchmark, and then assigning practice tests to monitor students' improvement over time, teachers can reap the full benefit of the course's diagnostic capabilities.
