About the AP® Annual Conference 2009
The AP® Annual Conference is the largest gathering of Advanced Placement Program® (AP) and Pre-AP® communities from across the United States and throughout the world. The conference features four days of workshops, panel discussions, presentations and exhibits focused on professional development, information and resources for AP teachers, AP Coordinators, administrators, middle school teachers and counselors.
The College Board’s AP Program is a rigorous academic program built on the passion, dedication and commitment of a community of students and educators from around the world. For more than 50 years, it has fostered collaboration among college faculty and AP teachers to prepare students for college success and advance academic excellence in high schools. More than 17,000 schools worldwide offer over 30 college-level AP courses, and more than 3,600 colleges and universities recognize AP for credit, placement and/or admissions decisions.
For both the AP teachers who create the more than 130,000 course syllabi and the middle school teachers who join them in making up the AP community, professional development is a vital aspect of their continuing efforts to provide their students with the very best AP experience. For this reason, almost 3,000 members of the community attended the 2008 AP Annual Conference in Seattle, Wash. The location of this year’s conference, Texas, is a state highly supportive of professional development and expanding access to AP opportunities for its students. The 2008 “AP Report to the Nation” noted that 27.3 percent of the public high school class of 2007 in Texas took at least one AP Exam during high school, surpassing the national average of 24.9 percent. For these reasons, this year’s conference is a special opportunity for sponsors and exhibitors to connect with some of the nation’s best K-16 educators.
Please join us in San Antonio, Texas, as we continue our work to develop a new generation of AP teachers and support them in their efforts to place their students on the path to college and the great opportunities beyond.
