The "CC a Parent" Email Service

The "CC a Parent" service lets parents get copies of important emails that their children receive from the College Board. It's an easy way for parents to stay in the loop (without bugging their kids) and to serve as a back-up on important notifications.

The service currently includes the following automatic emails, but others may be added as a student engages in new collegeboard.com activities:

  • Reminders about upcoming dates and deadlines
  • SAT registration receipts and notifications
  • SAT admission tickets for test day
  • Test center alerts
  • Score announcements

What's NOT included? To protect the security of a collegeboard.com account, we do not send copies of user name or password reminders. And because we have a newsletter tailored especially for parents, we do not automatically send parents copies of the student newsletter—unless parents subscribe themselves.

How It Works

When a collegeboard.com student account is created or updated, a student enters a parent's name and email and checks the "CC a Parent" box. We then send an email to the parent confirming that he or she wishes to participate. The parent will have 14 days to confirm before the invitation expires, and will get a reminder after 7 days. Students are notified if the parent confirms, if the invitation expires, or if the parent turns off the service. Parents are notified if a student turns off the service.

The Student Is in the Driver's Seat

Though the student or parent can turn off this service at any time, only the student can turn it on or change the email address of the recipient—via the "Update My Info" page in the student's personal collegeboard.com organizer.

Protecting Privacy

Each CC email will include a special header that identifies the email as a copy and reminds the parent that the information is for reference only. For security, the only way to act on any information in the body of the CC email is to sign in to the student's official collegeboard.com account. Keep in mind that these CC emails may contain sensitive information about students and their testing record, so only a trusted parent or guardian should be identified as a recipient.
