Expert Advice

"If you haven't decided on a college major or an area of concentration, take as many core courses as you can early in your college career."

College Application Fee Waivers

Many colleges charge a fee for processing applications. Most of these application fees are in the $35 to $50 range. If your child is applying to several colleges, that can add up.

So here’s something you should know: If your child received a fee waiver for the SAT®, some colleges will waive their application fee. See the link below for a list of colleges that do not charge an application fee to, or may consider waiving the fee for, students who have received an SAT Program fee waiver.

Your child can check with the school counselor to see if there are other circumstances that might lead to application fee waivers. For example, if your child is eligible for free or reduced-fee lunches, or if your family’s annual income is below a certain amount, your child may qualify.

Counselors know that colleges want to hear about promising students and don’t want the cost of the application to stand in their way. If you think your child may be eligible for application fee waivers, ask your child’s school counselor about it.
