College Board-Affiliated Scholarships

Your Child's Science Project Could Pay for College

Students with an interest in science- or math-related fields should consider entering one of the national scholarship competitions affiliated with the College Board. These competitions provide students with excellent opportunities for recognition and scholarship money.

Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology

The Siemens Foundation, in partnership with the College Board, founded the Siemens Competition. It promotes excellence in science, mathematics, engineering and technology — or combinations of these disciplines — by encouraging students to undertake research projects.

Scholarships range from $1,000 for regional finalists to $100,000 for the national winner. Students can compete as an individual or as a member of a team.

Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement

The Siemens Foundation also sponsors the Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement. Scholarships in the amount of $2,000 are awarded every year to students from each of the 50 states who have the greatest number of scores of 5 on eight AP math and science exams. Two additional national winners (one male and one female) are each awarded a $5,000 college scholarship.

Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) Competition

Funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and administered by the College Board, the YES Competition is a fun and challenging nationwide scholarship competition open to high school juniors and seniors. Students submit original research projects using the methods that epidemiologists employ to discover ways to improve the health of the public. Epidemiology is the scientific method used to investigate, analyze and prevent or control a health problem in a population. Students can win one of 120 scholarship awards ranging from $1,000 to $50,000. For more information, visit Young Epidemiology Scholars Competition.
