Economist Sandy Baum Testifies Before the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions

College Board Analyst and Skidmore College Professor Discusses Higher Education, Higher Cost, and Higher Debt: Paying for College in the Future

Washington, D.C.—Sandy Baum, senior policy analyst for the College Board and professor of economics at Skidmore College, in testimony to the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, provided analyses of student aid policies and college tuition trends. Topics included analyses of college tuition and the net prices students actually pay, the need for simplification and predictability in federal financial policies, ideas for improving student aid policies, and student debt and repayment.

Baum is co-chair of the College Board’s Rethinking Student Aid project, which has gathered leading policy, student aid, and higher education experts to evaluate the federal financial aid system and make recommendations for reform that will help reduce financial barriers to college. Baum is also author of the College Board’s Trends in College Pricing and Trends in Student Aid annual reports.
