Writing Scores

The writing section scores include both multiple-choice writing questions and your written essay. You will receive a score based on the 200 to 800 scale. In addition, you will receive two subscores--one for the essay score (2 to 12) and the writing multiple choice (20 to 80).

The essay counts for about 30% and the multiple choice counts for about 70% of the total writing score.

On this page, you'll also see information about your score range, percentiles, average scores, score detail, and an analysis of how your score might change if you test again.
