More Information
Improved Student Registration Process
How have students registered for the online course in the past?
They entered a six-digit school code provided by the College Board. This code was the same for all students at the school.
How is the new registration process different?
The College Board will send schools a unique, one time use code for each student. Each new code is more than six characters long and includes a hyphen.
How can educators learn about the new registration process?
Educators can view the short tutorial available above. Educators can also attend a live Web-based training session.
Under the new process, will students still use their collegeboard.com accounts to access the course?
Yes. After registering under the new process, students will continue to use their collegeboard.com accounts for ongoing access.
Will the new registration process affect current subscribers?
No. Current subscribers will continue to access the service with their collegeboard.com username and password. There's no need for them to reregister or take any other action.
When can students start using the new, unique codes?
Starting August 2, students may begin registering with the unique codes.
Can students continue to use the old school codes?
From August 2 through October 21, students may continue to register with the old six-digit school codes. When this transition period ends, those school codes will no longer work.
When will schools receive the unique codes?
At the start of the new school year, the College Board will send schools student registration cards for incoming students. The number of cards sent will equal 30 percent of each school's enrollment.
What if schools need additional unique codes?
Educators may request additional codes from the College Board, or they may generate them by going to the online course's Class Management tab and clicking on Manage Student Access Codes.
Student Notification Email
What is the student notification email?
It's an email from the College Board that reminds students that the online course is available at their school, highlights key course features, and encourages them to pick up a registration card.
Who will receive the student notification email?
Students who have registered online for the SAT®, elected to receive email updates from the College Board, and attend a school that makes the online course available.
When will students receive it?
Starting this fall, students will receive the email within one week of registering online for the SAT. (Georgia students began receiving the email last year.)
Can students choose not to receive this email?
Yes. Students can opt out by visiting the collegeboard.com email subscription center and deselecting the "Student SAT Preparation Reminders."
Can schools request that their students not receive this email?
Yes. Schools can contact The Official SAT Online Course support staff at the email address or phone number provided below to request that their students not receive this email.
Updated Pretest
What is the pretest?
The online course includes a practice test that students are encouraged to take when they start using the service.
What is changing, and when?
On August 2, the College Board will replace the 2006-07 pretest with the 2007-08 pretest.
What does this mean for students who took the 2006-07 pretest?
As of August 2, students will no longer be able to view the 2006-07 pretest. However, score reports for the 2006-07 pretest will continue to be available.
