Sample Questions & Scoring Guidelines

The three-hour AP Art History Exam includes a one-hour, 115-question multiple-choice section, and a two-hour free-response section that contains two long essay questions and seven short essay questions (based on printed color images).

You can find additional free-response questions and scoring guidelines on AP Central, along with score distributions and examples of actual students' responses and commentary that explain why the responses received the scores they did.

As of 2010, printed inserts containing color images are used instead of slides. In addition, students may now move freely from question to question for the total time allotted for the questions in Section I, Part A, and the short essay questions in Section II.
