CLEP in Minnesota

CLEP® and AP® provide significant educational opportunities. Both programs offer students the opportunity to demonstrate their mastery of college-level curriculum, earn college credit for what they already know, move into more challenging and interesting courses faster, and save money on tuition costs at a time when the price of a college education is increasing dramatically.

Through the "Get Ready, Get Credit," legislative initiative, Minnesota high school students may take CLEP and AP exams at no charge through June 30, 2008. Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MNSCU) will grant college credit for scores of 50 or higher on CLEP exams and 3 or higher on AP examinations. The state is providing the funding for students to take up to six CLEP exams free of charge.

All students planning to take a state-funded CLEP exam must be provided with a signed authorization form to take to the test center. A test administration process document and the student authorization form are available at the MN Department of Education website.

"I am so thankful for the CLEP tests. I took most of them while I was still in high school . . . When I got to college all my CLEP tests were accepted. I then took more CLEP tests and eliminated an entire year of college . . . I went on to earn my Master's Degree."

-Michelle Lieske, Concordia University

"Thanks to CLEP exams I will be able to add a minor to my college curriculum. I took Principles of Management while in high school and two more exams when I got to college. Without those credits, I would not have had room in my schedule to take the courses necessary for a minor."

-Angela Isker, 2006 Graduate of Waseca High School
