Before Exam Day

What You Need to Know Ahead of Time

Learn as much as possible about the test and the test situation before the day of the exam. That way, you can demonstrate your true degree of knowledge in the subject area being tested. Here's what you need to know in advance:

  • Exam timing and subsections. Read the description of your exam to learn how much time is allowed for the test and whether there are timed subsections.
  • Types of questions and directions on your exam. FPractice answering different question types and familiarize yourself with the exam software using the CLEP Sampler (.zip/9.36MB; PC only; you will need a compression utility such as WinZip).
  • How your score is computed. Read Scores & Transcripts to learn how your scores are determined.
  • Location of the exam room. Whether you're driving yourself or taking public transportation, know where you're going and how much time you need to get there. If you're driving, find out where you should park. Call the test center to get specific directions to the building and room in which your exam is administered.
  • Time of the test administration. Confirm this information a day or two before the exam. Find out when the building and room are open, so that you can plan to arrive early.
