College students who want to advance toward their degrees and save money

"By taking CLEP exams I am way ahead in my coursework and that gives me a lot of options over the next couple of years. Plus, I saved money. I earned six units of credit for two exams and saved over $1,500 in tuition costs. I plan on taking more CLEP exams this year so I can keep moving ahead in my education."

Bob Holmberg, sophomore, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ

"I am a huge fan of CLEP. The five exams that I took helped me finish my associate's degree in six months and save over $1,200 in tuition costs. Now, I am working on completing my bachelor's degree and on my way to a master's program. I would not be where I am today without CLEP."

Reg Turner, graduate of Bucks County Community College, Newtown, PA

"When I returned to college after working in California for several years, I no longer met in-state residency requirements, and my tuition increased dramatically. I needed a way to speed up my education and bring down tuition costs. CLEP was the solution! I took 5 CLEP exams and earned 21 units of basic credit, allowing me to concentrate instead on the courses specific to my major. CLEP saved me two semesters and almost $2,400 in tuition! I recommend CLEP to everyone."

Home schooled students who want to demonstrate their knowledge

"As a home school student I was very accustomed to studying on my own. CLEP testing worked great because it allowed me to take advantage of my experience as an independent learner. After high school graduation I took a year off to pursue personal interests. Then in September I started taking CLEP exams. I've taken 20 exams so far and cut two and a half years off of the time it will take to graduate. I like to say, 'I started college one year late and I'm finishing one and one-half years early.' Thank you CLEP."

People looking to advance their careers by earning a college degree

"I am a 45 year old student and will complete my undergraduate degree in spring 2005. Like many people, I went to college right out of high school. But, I left during my sophomore year. Years later when I decided that I needed to return to college and complete my degree program to advance my career I had a very different attitude. Time was of the essence. Credit-by-examination programs, such as CLEP, provided the ideal way for me to earn college credit for the knowledge and skills that I had gained along the way. I will have my business degree in a matter of months, and I owe much of my success to taking CLEP exams. Every student working to earn a degree and improve their career opportunities should take advantage of CLEP exams."

Working parents who juggle a job, family, school, and other responsibilities

"CLEP played an important role in helping me get my degree. I accelerated my graduation by earning 27 credits through CLEP exams. It helped me earn credits efficiently and gave me more time to spend with my son. I still tell students about my success with CLEP. It is truly a way to advance yourself by applying the knowledge you've gained through on-the-job training, independent study or life experience to earning that college degree."

Working adult students with busy schedules

"I am a returning adult student with a full-time job and can only take classes at night. Earning my degree has been a slow process. Taking CLEP exams have made reaching my goal much faster and more economical. I have taken four CLEP exams and earned 15 hours of credit, equivalent to two semesters of night classes. Given the opportunity to take CLEP exams, I am now within a year of graduation. I am so thankful that my academic advisor told me about CLEP."

Jamye Vick, student, University of Louisiana - Monroe, Class of 2005

"I was determined to earn my degree in two years. So I explored a way that I could do that and I learned about CLEP. It tested my college-level experience and knowledge - if I passed the test, I earned the credits. So I studied and realized I had learned a thing or two outside of the classroom."

International students looking to demonstrate and transfer knowledge obtained overseas

"I am a transfer student from the United Kingdom. My international advisor recommended that I take CLEP exams to avoid repeating coursework that I had already mastered and to reduce tuition costs, which are considerably higher for international students. After only one month as a student here, I already have taken two CLEP examinations, earned six credits, and saved over $1,500. I plan to take more. Thank you CLEP."

Keith Walmsley, freshman, Anne Arundel Community College, Arnold, MD

"I am so glad that I learned about CLEP and figured out how the exams could fit into my academic career. CLEP took away a lot of the financial burden and psychological pressures I was facing. I am very sure that I would still be slogging away at my degree if I had not known about the CLEP program."

Military service members and veterans who want to earn their college degrees and take advantage of their military education benefits

"After five years in the military, I entered college with one goal in mind: to earn my undergraduate degree as quickly as possible and move on to a graduate program in aviation. CLEP helped me reach that goal. I took eight CLEP exams which helped me graduate in 21 months. I am now in an aviation program and waiting to enter flight school and reenter the military as a commissioned officer and pilot. I also plan to enter an MBA program. CLEP will help out there too. I can take three more exams as prerequisites for the MBA program. I'm sold on CLEP and I recommend the exams to other qualified students. I tell them they should do what I did; use CLEP to test out of classes they don't need to take."

People who speak a foreign language fluently and want to earn college credit for this valuable skill

"CLEP examinations have helped me focus my time and attention on my academic major. I came to the United States from Europe to study Spanish. I am fluent in French and German and wanted to earn college credit for those language skills. I took the French and German CLEP exams and earned 32 credits. Those CLEP credits have given me the liberty to concentrate on my studies in Spanish."

Barbara Zahno, student, Arizona State University, Class of 2006

"I was close to completing my associate degree, but due to my busy work schedule, I was having a difficult time finishing. My knowledge of Spanish and CLEP gave me the extra help I needed. I earned eight credits through CLEP Spanish. It helped me complete my degree at Miami Dade and fulfill language requirements for a four-year institution."

John Paul Soto, graduate of Miami Dade College - InterAmerican Campus, Miami, Florida
