SAT Program Fee-Waiver Service
This service is designed to assist students for whom payment of fees for the SAT or SAT Subject Tests™ might be a barrier to college entrance. SAT fee waivers are available for high school students in the United States, U.S. territories, and U.S. commonwealths, who cannot afford to pay the test fees. They are also available to eligible U.S. citizens testing in international locations. See your counselor to request a fee waiver. Eligible freshmen and sophomores can use fee waivers for SAT Subject Tests only. Eligible high school juniors and seniors can use waivers for both the SAT and SAT Subject Tests.
Flexible Score Reports for Fee-Waiver Eligible Students
If you are eligible for a fee waiver, you get up to four free additional flexible score reports that can be used while you are in high school. Only four flexible score reports can be used, regardless of the number of times you register.
If you are eligible for a fee waiver and you want to use flexible score reports, sign in to your personal collegeboard.com account and view the My SAT home page to determine how many credits you have left before placing your order. The number of flexible score reports for students who are eligible for fee waivers appears automatically if you have previously registered for the SAT or SAT Subject Tests using a fee waiver. You can also call Customer Service.
If you have not previously registered with a fee waiver and you meet our eligibility guidelines, you can still obtain flexible score reports by seeing your counselor. If you are eligible, your counselor will give you a fee-waiver card. By entering the 12-digit code from the card, you can use a total of four additional flexible score reports.
SAT Fee Waivers
Only your counselor can grant you a fee waiver. Fee waivers are not available from College Board Customer Service. Fee-waivers:
- Cover the basic test fees for SAT or SAT Subject Tests
- Cover the cost of four additional score reports
- Cover either the Question-and-Answer Service (QAS) or the Student Answer Service (SAS) when ordered during registration
- May qualify you for application fee waivers at many colleges, if the institution has agreed to cooperate with the SAT Program Fee-Waiver Service
- Entitle you to a discount on the Official SAT Online Course when ordered during an online registration
Note: You must register by the regular registration deadline. Fee waivers cannot be used for late registration except for the October test date. Fee waivers cannot be used for standby registrations.
Eligibility
You are eligible for consideration for fee waivers if you are a high school student who meets the financial eligibility guidelines (such as participating in the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch/National School Lunch Program at your school). Your guidance counselor can share any additional eligibility guidelines with you.
You must also fall into one of these two categories:
- An American citizen or a foreign national testing in the United States, U.S. territories, or U.S. commonwealths.
- An American citizen living outside the United States
If you are a homeschooled student in the United States or U.S. territories, including Puerto Rico, who cannot afford to pay the test fees, you must provide proof of eligibility to your local high school or agency fee-waiver administrator or counselor. Only a school or agency counselor can provide you with an SAT fee waiver. If you qualify for an SAT fee waiver, you can also receive up to four Request for Waiver of College Application Fee forms to request application waivers from higher education institutions.
Registering with Fee Waivers
If you are eligible, you are entitled to use fee waivers to cover the cost of two SAT registrations and two SAT Subject Test registrations (for a maximum of six SAT Subject Tests).
Online Registration
If you wish to register online and are eligible, your counselor will give you fee-waiver information, including a 12-digit fee-waiver code. When you are asked to enter your fee-waiver code during online registration, enter the entire 12-digit code. This code can only be used once.Mail Registration
To register by mail using a fee waiver, obtain an SAT Registration Booklet along with fee-waiver documentation from your counselor. Make sure your fee-waiver information is complete; you cannot register for the test without it. Follow instructions from your counselor and mail the Registration Form by the regular registration deadline. Your Registration Form will be returned to you if the fee-waiver information is missing or improperly completed, and your registration will be delayed.
Waiving College Application Fees
If you use SAT or SAT Subject Test fee waivers and plan to enter college in fall of 2010, you are eligible to receive up to four Request for Waiver of College Application Fee forms from your counselor. These forms notify participating colleges that you have used the SAT Program Fee-Waiver Service and request that they consider waiving their application fees. To use a form, first make sure the college accepts it, and then mail the completed, signed form with your college application.
To find out if the college and/or university of your choice has agreed to consider waiving the application fee, check the 2008-09 Directory of Colleges Cooperating with the SAT® Program Fee-Waiver Service (.pdf/676K).
Note: An institution listed in the directory is not obligated to waive its application fee for every fee-waiver user who applies. Please speak to the admissions staff at each institution before enclosing the form with your application.
