Causalities of War: The Short- and Long-Term Effects of the 1945 Atomic Bomb Attacks on Japan

Summary: This unit encourages students to analyze the ethical, medical, and economic implications of war and to consider how to assess the immediate and delayed health effects of a catastrophic event.

Students will apply their understanding of natural experiments by writing a short essay about epidemiological studies conducted to examine effects of the September 11, 2001 destruction of the World Trade Center on the health of New York City residents.
