Testing Ephedra: Using Epidemiological Studies to Teach the Scientific Method

Prerequisite: It is helpful if students have a basic knowledge of the scientific method.

Summary: This weeklong unit uses the subject of epidemiological study to help students develop a strong understanding of the scientific method and how science experiments are conducted. Students will become familiar with some examples of epidemiological studies, such as the randomized, controlled clinical trial, and the cohort study.

Students will also understand why it is important to test the safety of over the counter and prescription drugs that are sold on the market.
