Because of the YES Competition Katie stayed involved in epidemiology throughout college and plans to incorporate it into her medical school career. This summer she worked with an epidemiologist in Thailand to evaluate the safety of a vaccine developed for dust mite allergens in rural areas.

Kelly Moltzen, Harriman, New York, attends graduate school at New York University and studies community public health with an international concentration. This summer she completed a seven month internship with Bronx Health REACH/New York Center of Excellence in the Elimination of Disparities. As a Bronx Health REACH nutrition intern, she is also enrolled in the AmeriCorps Community HealthCorps program and is working on the formative research for a social marketing campaign to get children in the Bronx to eat more vegetables and fruits. In August, she began a dietetic internship at the James J. Peters Veterans Affairs Medical Center in the Bronx. Kelly credits the YES Competition for her decision to study preventative health.
